“FTV is doing a phenomenal job with providing prenatal and postpartum support for Black moms. The work they’re doing is rare and unheard of in any other place around the world. I am so grateful I found this program and got a chance to be apart. They made the world of a difference in my birthing experience as a first time mom.”
About For the Village
For The Village was established in January 2018 by doula and activist, Sabia Wade. FTV provides doula services through medi-cal and free childbirth & lactation education classes in San Diego County for all individuals/families with an emphasis on marginalized groups, such as people of color, LGBTQIA and low income individuals and families
Our vision is to improve perinatal outcomes by equipping our community doulas with education, support, and training. We aim to work collaboratively with our community partners to educate, support, and empower pregnant community members. By providing our doulas with the necessary tools and advocating for reproductive justice, we ensure the highest standards of care and support for their clients.
Sabia is a Black, queer, CEO with a mission of building bridges for a more inclusive, diverse, and equitable world through Reproductive Justice, distribution of financial wealth to BIPOC communities, and investing in emergent and innovative businesses. Sabia founded FTV after quitting her job and becoming a full-time doula.
From 2015-2017, Sabia was a volunteer doula for The Prison Birth Project. In 2018, Sabia quit her job and became a full-time doula in San Diego, CA. In April 2018, Sabia started For The Village in response to a lack of representation in the doula community and a gap of community-based training. In 2019, Sabia created Birthing Advocacy Doula Trainings to expand training even further. In 2022, Sabia released her book, Birthing Liberation: How Reproductive Justice Can Set Us Free.
On top of being the Executive Director of For the Village, Sabia is a mentor, spiritual director, death doula, educator, human design reader, reiki practitioner, and much more.

I’m Perri Grant, and I firmly believe that every woman should have access to doula support.
As an African American doula, I recognize the persistent disparities in mortality rates among African American women. I am a passionate doula, committed to being part of the solution. I’m also a proud mother of three and a devoted spouse to a retired Naval Master Chief with 30 years of service.
